Ilford Galerie Smooth Cotton Sonora 320GSM 43.2cm X 15m

Ilford Galerie Smooth Cotton Sonora 320GSM 43.2cm X 15m | A long roll for planned print runs

When you’re preparing several prints and want to choose the paper before settling on a layout, a roll gives you room to plan the job around your images. Ilford Galerie Smooth Cotton Sonora is photo paper in a 43.2 cm wide, 15 m long roll, with a stated weight of 320 gsm. Its name identifies a smooth cotton paper, so the surface and material are clear starting points when you’re deciding how you want a print to look and feel. It suits photographers and printmakers making their own images, especially when they need a longer continuous supply rather than a small pack of sheets. One honest point: the name and dimensions tell you what the paper is, but don’t establish which printers can use it. Check your printer’s roll and paper requirements before planning a job around it.

Planning a print run

A 43.2 cm roll width gives you a fixed dimension to work with as you arrange images on the page. Before printing, map out the sizes you intend to make and how you’ll position them across the roll; that makes it easier to estimate how much material the job will use. The 15 m length is useful context when comparing a roll with sheet paper or working out whether one roll suits the scale of a project. Leave room in your plan for the way you intend to trim each print. Those decisions depend on your image sizes and layout, rather than on the paper name alone. The 320 gsm figure is another clear point for comparing paper options: it describes the stated paper weight, not a promise about the finished print.
