Kaiser RSP Xtra Copy Stand
Kaiser RSP Xtra Copy Stand | A steadier setup for copying flat originals
Without a copy stand, photographing a page or print often means holding the camera overhead and trying to keep it square. The Kaiser RSP Xtra is a tripod accessory for a more consistent way to copy flat material: it gives you a dedicated stand for positioning your camera over the subject. That makes sense for photographers, artists and anyone digitising printed pages, photographs or flat artwork at home or in a workspace. Its strongest use is repeatable, straight-on copying, especially when you have a stack of originals and want each image framed in a similar way. Set the original flat, position the camera above it and take time to align the edges before shooting. You’ll still need to handle focus, exposure and lighting with your camera and room setup; the stand is there to support the copying arrangement, not to make those decisions for you.
Specialist Note
The RSP Xtra won’t choose your focus or exposure, so it isn’t a shortcut around setting up each image carefully. Its value is that it’s a copy stand, rather than an improvised way of holding a camera over a page; as a tripod accessory, it gives copying a dedicated place in your setup. I’d consider it for digitising family prints, documents or flat artwork, one original at a time. Lay each piece flat, take a moment to square the camera to its edges, then keep the framing consistent as you work through the rest. You’ll still need to arrange your own lighting, but for repeatable copying, that’s a sensible trade-off.
