LaCie 2big Quadra 12TB FireWire 800 USB 3.0 7200rpm 3.5-inch | Room for a large file archive

Without a dedicated external drive, large folders can end up scattered across a computer and other storage. The LaCie 2big Quadra gives you 12TB in an external HDD, making it suited to people who want a substantial place for an archive, working files or backup copies. Its title names both FireWire 800 and USB 3.0, along with a 7200rpm drive and a 3.5-inch format. That makes it a product to consider when those details match the storage you’re shopping for. The honest point is that a large capacity doesn’t organise files for you: you’ll still want a clear folder structure and a backup plan that suits your work. For a photographer, that might mean keeping completed shoots together rather than leaving every image on a computer’s internal storage. It’s a straightforward option when the main requirement is a lot of external disk space.

Choosing it for your setup

Think first about what you need the drive to hold and how you’ll use it day to day. A large archive has different demands from a small set of files you carry between locations; this model is best considered for a storage role where its 12TB capacity is useful. The two connection types in the product name give you a practical point to compare with the ports and workflow you already use. Don’t assume a connector alone settles that question: your computer and software need to suit the connection too. The 3.5-inch size is also worth bearing in mind when you’re planning where an external drive will sit. If you’re choosing storage for a specific setup, compare these named details with your own requirements before deciding. That keeps the purchase grounded in what matters: capacity, connection and how the drive will fit into your routine.
