LaCie 5big Thunderbolt2 HW RAID 5/6 30TB

LaCie 5big Thunderbolt2 HW RAID 5/6 30TB | 30TB storage with a choice of RAID modes

Hardware RAID is the defining choice here: the LaCie 5big gives you RAID 5 or RAID 6 as the named options, rather than presenting this as a plain external hard drive. It’s a 30TB external HDD for people who need substantial storage in a dedicated unit, such as a studio or production team managing a large working collection. Thunderbolt 2 is part of the product name too, making that connection standard central to how this drive is described. The useful point is the combination of capacity and two RAID modes in one product. If you’re comparing storage for an established workflow, those are the details to weigh first; the title doesn’t give a reason to assume extra features beyond them.

The 5big name, 30TB capacity and hardware RAID description make this a more specific proposition than simply looking for an external HDD. It’s aimed at a buyer who already has a reason to choose between RAID 5 and RAID 6, and who wants that choice associated with a 30TB LaCie drive. I’d treat the RAID mode as a decision to make around your own storage workflow, rather than assuming one setting suits everyone. The name also calls out Thunderbolt 2, so it’s worth comparing that connection detail with the setup you plan to use. In short, this is a high-capacity external drive with its RAID options spelled out in the product name—useful details to have up front when narrowing down a storage purchase.
