Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND64 67 mm
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND64 67 mm | Longer exposures in bright light
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND64 67 mm reduces incoming light to one sixty-fourth, a six-stop cut that lets you use slower shutter speeds in bright conditions. It’s built for photographers who want movement in a scene to register as blur, especially flowing water, passing clouds or busy daytime settings. The 67 mm size is for a matching filter fit, while the ND64 density is the reason to reach for it when a regular exposure would freeze motion too quickly. Keep your chosen aperture and ISO, then lengthen the exposure to control how much movement appears. For example, a starting exposure of 1/60 sec becomes about 1 sec through a six-stop reduction, assuming the same aperture and ISO. It can also give you more room to use a wider aperture in bright light, though the result depends on the scene and your exposure settings.
Specialist Note
With the ND64 in use, you can deliberately trade a quick shutter for visible motion without changing the framing or waiting for softer light. For a stream or fountain, meter without the filter, then account for six stops: a 1/60 sec reading becomes roughly 1 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s long enough to show movement while keeping control over the composition. I’d point this toward landscape photographers and anyone working in bright daylight who wants blurred water or softer cloud movement. The main caveat is its strength: in shade or late light, the extra-long exposure may be more than you want, so it pairs best with scenes that have ample light.
