Nikon HB-46 Lens Hood For Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G
Nikon HB-46 Lens Hood For Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G | Helps Shade Stray Light
Bright light from just outside the frame can soften contrast; the Nikon HB-46 gives owners of the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G a dedicated way to shade the front of that lens. It’s a straightforward accessory for photographers who use this specific 35mm lens and want help managing stray light in strong sun or around bright lamps. Keep it on for street scenes or family photographs when a light source is close to the edge of your composition. The hood can also give the lens front a little extra cover during everyday use, though it isn’t a substitute for careful handling. Its black finish is understated, and its purpose is specific: this is a hood for the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G, rather than a general-fit accessory. If that’s the lens in your kit, the HB-46 offers a simple way to shade it when the lighting calls for it.
Specialist Note
The Nikon HB-46 is made to shade the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G from off-axis light. That pairing is its strength, so I’d keep it on when you’re photographing outdoors with the sun just beyond the frame; it can help preserve contrast in the scene. The lens’s 35mm focal length suits everyday street and family pictures, while its f/1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in dimmer light. For an evening portrait, use f/1.8 when you need more light, and leave the hood in place if a bright lamp is causing flare. Just bear in mind that this is a lens-specific hood, not one to move between different lenses.
