OWC Gemini 40TB 7200RPM (20TB X 2)Dual Drive Thunderbolt 3 Hardware Raid Storage

OWC Gemini 40TB 7200RPM (20TB X 2) Dual Drive Thunderbolt 3 Hardware RAID Storage | Keep large projects together

Running out of room for large files can make it harder to keep a project’s working material in one place. The OWC Gemini brings two 20TB drives together in an external HDD with a stated total capacity of 40TB. It’s aimed at people who need substantial desktop storage for large collections of files, such as video projects or image archives, and want a dual-drive hardware RAID unit rather than a single external drive. The 7200RPM drives and Thunderbolt 3 connection are part of the product’s specification; this information alone doesn’t tell us what transfer speeds you’ll see in your setup. The useful point is the combination of two drives and a large stated capacity in one storage product. If your current storage is already close to full, that gives you a clear capacity figure to consider when planning a new home for your files.

Planning around the capacity

The 40TB figure is the combined capacity of the two 20TB drives. With hardware RAID storage, how much space is presented for use can depend on the RAID configuration, so it’s sensible to consider your intended setup before treating the full figure as available working space. The product title doesn’t specify a RAID mode, so we won’t assume how the drives are arranged or what that means for your usable capacity. Think about the files you want to store and how much room you want to leave for future work; that makes it easier to judge whether this size is appropriate for your needs.

This is a considered purchase for a desk-based storage setup, not a small-capacity drive for occasional documents. Its stated 40TB total and two-drive design are the details to weigh up first. If those match the scale of your projects, the Gemini gives you a single external HDD product to assess for that role. The Thunderbolt 3 connection is another part of the decision, but the title alone isn’t enough to promise how it will perform with any particular computer or workflow.
