Radius Puffer Urchin LAV Windshield Foam Core Black (Pair)
Radius Puffer Urchin LAV Windshield Foam Core Black (Pair) | Helps tame wind on lavalier mics
The foam core is the defining choice: it places a simple barrier between moving air and the microphone, helping keep wind from overpowering spoken audio. The Radius Puffer Urchin LAV is a black windshield for lavalier microphones, supplied as a pair. It suits video makers and sound recordists who need clearer speech when recording outside or near moving air. Its best use is close-miked dialogue, such as an interview or presenter segment, where wind noise can distract from the voice. The black finish is a low-key option when you want the microphone setup to draw little attention. This is a straightforward accessory for managing airflow around a lavalier; it doesn’t change the way you record or require a different approach to the rest of your setup.
Specialist Note
Once fitted over a lavalier, this gives you one less thing to worry about when a breeze catches the mic during speech. The LAV design is aimed at that small, close-to-the-speaker microphone, rather than a larger recording setup. For a two-person interview, the pair lets you give each lavalier the same basic wind barrier; use one on each mic so the voices are treated consistently. It also makes sense for a presenter recording outdoors. Just keep expectations sensible: foam can help with wind, but it won’t make speech immune to strong gusts.
