Rycote Extended Small Mini Windjammer
Rycote Extended Small Mini Windjammer | Helps tame wind noise outdoors
Outdoor speech can pick up a rough rush of wind across the microphone, making a clear recording harder to listen to. The Rycote Extended Small Mini Windjammer is a microphone accessory intended to help reduce that wind disturbance. Its name identifies the extended Small Mini version, so it’s a specifically designated option rather than a one-size-fits-all wind cover. It suits people recording speech or ambient sound outdoors who want to address wind at the microphone itself. For an interview, a spoken introduction or location audio, the aim is to keep gusts from overwhelming the sound you’re trying to capture. The windjammer is black, a low-key colour around recording equipment. It’s best thought of as help with wind noise, not a way to make a very windy location silent; careful placement and sensible recording conditions still matter.
Specialist Note
The black finish keeps the accessory visually quiet around a microphone, which is handy when you want the recording setup to draw less attention than the person speaking. I’d pay attention to the full “Extended Small Mini” name when choosing it: those words identify this particular version, rather than promising a universal fit. For outdoor dialogue, position the windjammer over the microphone area it’s intended to cover before you start recording; the same approach can help with location ambience when wind is reaching the mic. It’s a focused aid, not a cure for every outdoor sound: strong gusts and handling noise can still affect a recording.
