Rycote FWS 18/32 Windjammer
Rycote FWS 18/32 Windjammer | A named wind cover for microphone use
The defining choice is the FWS 18/32 designation: this is a specifically named Rycote windjammer, not just a generic microphone accessory. That makes the exact product name the useful starting point when you’re selecting a wind cover. A windjammer is intended to help reduce the effect of moving air on microphone recording, so it’s relevant for outdoor speech and location sound where wind can distract from what’s being recorded. It suits recordists who need a wind-cover accessory identified by this particular Rycote model name. I’d think of it as a practical addition for interviews, dialogue or other spoken-word recording outdoors, rather than as a general microphone upgrade. The available product information is limited, so I’m keeping the recommendation tied to what the name confirms: a Rycote windjammer in the FWS 18/32 version. If that’s the designation you need, this is the product to consider.
Specialist Note
Once a breeze starts reaching the microphone, having a windjammer to hand can mean less attention spent managing wind and more on the recording itself. The useful detail here is the full FWS 18/32 name: I’d use that exact designation when identifying the accessory, rather than choosing by the broad word “windjammer” alone. Rycote is the named maker, and the product is specifically a windjammer, so its role is clear without dressing it up as a wider sound solution. It’s aimed at people recording outdoors, especially interviews or location dialogue. My honest advice is to keep the model name with your equipment notes; the title alone doesn’t give me a basis to promise a fit for a particular microphone.
