Rycote Stereo Cyclone Ambisonic 2
Rycote Stereo Cyclone Ambisonic 2 | A named accessory for stereo ambisonic recording
Choosing an accessory for a stereo ambisonic setup can be frustrating when the product name doesn’t make its intended recording context clear. The Rycote Stereo Cyclone Ambisonic 2 gives you those key cues right in its name: it’s a microphone accessory, and it’s identified for stereo ambisonic use. That makes it relevant to recordists assembling a rig for spatial audio, where keeping the intended format in view helps narrow down equipment choices. The name alone doesn’t establish how the accessory attaches or which microphones it suits, so those details shouldn’t be assumed from “Ambisonic 2”. It’s best approached as a specifically named part of a stereo ambisonic setup, rather than as a microphone or a general-purpose audio accessory. If your recording plan uses that format, this is the Rycote model to consider and verify for your particular rig.
Specialist Note
At the planning desk, I’d write “stereo ambisonic” beside the microphone accessory on the kit list, then keep the “2” in the product name intact when sourcing it. Those are useful distinctions: stereo points to the recording format, while ambisonic describes the spatial-audio approach. This makes the Rycote a relevant candidate for someone putting together a spatial recording setup, rather than someone shopping for a microphone itself. My honest advice is to match the exact model name to the part you need before building the rest of the rig around it; the title gives a clear application, but not a microphone-fit or attachment detail.
