Rycote Windjammer WJ AE
Rycote Windjammer WJ AE | Wind protection for microphone recordings
The Rycote Windjammer WJ AE is a microphone accessory intended to help manage wind when recording outdoors. Its appeal is its focused purpose: it’s a windjammer, rather than a microphone or a general-purpose audio accessory. That makes it relevant to people recording speech, interviews or other sound in places where moving air can interfere with a clean take. A windjammer is most useful when the microphone needs to remain exposed to the surrounding environment, such as during a street interview or a recording outside. It won’t change the character of the microphone or remove unrelated background sounds, so it’s best thought of as a practical part of an outdoor recording setup. The product name alone doesn’t identify a particular microphone model, so I’d avoid assuming a fit across different microphones. If you already know the WJ AE is the right match for your microphone, this is a straightforward accessory to consider for windier recording conditions.
Specialist Note
I’d think of the WJ AE as a focused bit of kit for a specific problem: wind reaching a microphone during an outdoor recording. It may suit someone capturing an interview on a breezy street or recording speech in an open space, where wind can distract from the voice. For the cleanest result, keep the microphone aimed at the speaker and use the Windjammer as wind protection; it isn’t a fix for traffic, room echo or other background noise. The important practical point is fit: the name tells us this is the WJ AE, but not which microphone it matches. I’d pair it only with a microphone confirmed to suit this model.
