Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV HLYWD BLK Magic 1/8 6.6x6.6
Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV HLYWD BLK Magic 1/8 6.6x6.6 | A precise filter choice for cinema setups
Without a filter, you’re shooting without this particular optical element in front of the lens. The Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV HLYWD BLK Magic is a cinema-format filter, identified by its 1/8 strength and 6.6 × 6.6 size. It suits filmmakers and camera teams who choose filters as part of a considered image-making setup, rather than reaching for a general-purpose accessory. The square format gives you a clear sizing reference when planning a rig, while the 1/8 designation makes it easier to select this specific strength deliberately. It’s a sensible option to consider for controlled work such as interviews or product shots, where you can decide in advance which filter to use and keep that choice consistent across takes. The name also makes it straightforward to find when you’re looking specifically for Schneider-Kreuznach’s Hollywood Black Magic line. If you need a different size or strength, this is a specific configuration, not a catch-all filter.
Specialist Note
The 6.6 × 6.6 format is a limitation if you need something small and simple to carry; it makes more sense as part of a planned cinema setup. For a rig built around that square size, though, this is a clearly identified Schneider-Kreuznach option. I’d consider the 1/8 strength for a controlled interview or a composed product shot, choosing it before the take and keeping the same choice through matching shots. That strength marking is useful when you want to be deliberate about which version you’re using, rather than treating the filter as an unspecified accessory. It suits filmmakers who value a precise, repeatable setup and know the filter size their workflow calls for.
