SmallRig 5187 Cage for Sony Alpha 1 II / Alpha 9 III: An Overview
The SmallRig 5187 Cage is expertly crafted for the Sony Alpha 1 II and Alpha 9 III, offering enhanced protection for your camera as well as a variety of expansion options. It features the innovative HawkLock quick-release NATO rail and an Arca-Swiss plate, allowing for easy one-click secure attachment to various optional HawkLock accessories, including side handles (SmallRig ID 4485), quick-release mounting plates (SmallRig ID 4486), and top handles (SmallRig ID 4483).
Designed with a three-point anti-deflection locking structure, this cage secures the camera with two 1/4"-20 screws on the underside and right side, along with an M4 positioning pin below, eliminating the need to remove the D-rings. It also includes protective padding around it to prevent scratches, and a hinged door at the battery compartment that enhances grip by providing additional support for your pinky finger.
Key features of the cage include:
- Diverse mounting interfaces, such as 1/4"-20 threaded and positioning holes, ARRI 3/8"-16 positioning holes, and a HawkLock NATO rail for attaching various top handles (SmallRig ID 3765, 4757) or side handles (SmallRig ID 4755) that facilitate smooth and stable camera motions.
- A cold shoe attachment for connecting devices like the DJI MIC II and LED lights, alongside a lower 1/4"-20 threaded hole for mounting on desktop tripods or DJI RS Mini quick-release plates, making it ideal for use with stabilizers.
- An Arca-Swiss quick-release plate for rapid switching between handheld setups, Arca-type tripods, or gimbals (compatible with DJI RS 2, RSC 2, RS 3, RS 3 Pro, RS 4, and RS 4 Pro).
The cage also incorporates a QD connector for attaching shoulder straps, with strap slots on both sides and the base for attaching optional wrist straps (SmallRig ID 3848), shoulder straps (SmallRig ID PSC2428, 4882), and additional accessories. Moreover, it comes with a magnetic key at the bottom for easy installation and removal.
