SmallRig 5947 Mini Side Handle w/ Nato Clamp
SmallRig 5947 Mini Side Handle w/ Nato Clamp | More support for handheld video
During handheld filming, a camera can feel harder to steady as you keep it raised and adjust your framing. The SmallRig 5947 Mini Side Handle w/ Nato Clamp is a shoulder rig accessory for adding support to handheld video work. It suits video makers who want a dedicated place to hold the rig, rather than relying on the camera body alone. Its mini side-handle format keeps the idea simple: an extra grip point for working with a handheld setup. The NATO clamp is part of its attachment design, so it’s intended for a rig built around that connection. This is a focused piece of kit, not a camera stabilizer or a complete rig by itself. Consider it when your filming involves repeated handheld takes and you want a more deliberate way to hold the setup.
Where it fits
For interview clips, event coverage or short walk-and-talk sequences, a side handle gives your hand a defined position while you frame. It can also make a handheld setup feel more considered when you’re moving between shots. The benefit is support at the point of contact; it won’t remove camera movement for you. Pair it with a compatible rig arrangement that uses the NATO clamp connection.
Specialist Note
The SmallRig 5947 earns its place when you need a steadier way to hold a handheld video rig than gripping the camera body alone. Its mini side handle gives you a separate hand position, which is handy for keeping your hold consistent through interview takes or event clips. I’d use that grip while framing, then keep your other hand free to manage the camera. The NATO clamp makes the attachment method a specific part of the setup, so plan around a rig with a matching connection. It’s a support accessory, not a fix for camera shake; for moving shots, it works best alongside good handheld technique.
