Sony’s radio link is the defining feature of the FA-WRR1: it keeps flash communication less vulnerable to bright sunlight and physical obstacles. The Sony FA-WRR1 Wireless Radio Receiver communicates over approximately 30 metres, giving you useful reach for lighting a portrait or product setup away from the camera. It’s made for Sony Alpha interchangeable-lens cameras and external flashes, and works with the separate FA-WRC1M Wireless Radio Commander. Choose TTL, manual or group operation to suit the way you’re lighting a scene. For portraits, off-camera flash gives you more control over the direction of the light; for product photography, separate flash positions can shape highlights and shadows. The radio system’s range is particularly handy when a light needs to sit across a room or on the other side of an obstacle. This compact receiver is also well suited to location work, where a cable running back to the camera would get in the way. It’s a focused piece of kit for photographers who want to control external flashes remotely, rather than a flash unit in its own right.

Radio flash control

• High Speed Sync: HSS is available for flash photography at shutter speeds beyond normal sync. It’s useful when you want to balance flash with brighter ambient light.
• Sync speed: The system offers flash synchronisation up to 1/250 sec. That gives you a clear reference point when setting shutter speed for flash work.
• Flash output adjustment: Set levels from 1/1 to 1/256 in 1/3 EV steps. The fine increments let you make measured changes to a flash’s contribution instead of jumping between broad power settings.
• Built-in sync terminal: A sync connection is built into the receiver, adding a direct connection point for compatible flash equipment.
• Remote shutter release: Connect a multiconnector cable to a camera to trigger its shutter wirelessly. This supports setups where the camera needs to be positioned away from the photographer.
• Multi Interface Shoe flash support: The receiver is intended for Sony flashes with a Multi Interface Shoe; the HVL-F20M is excluded. Check that your flash model matches before building a setup around it.
• Dust- and moisture-resistant construction: The receiver is made to withstand dust and moisture, a useful consideration when working outside or moving between locations.
