Sony Lens Hood ALC-SH161 For SEL 16-55 f/2.8 G | Helps control stray light

Keep stray light from washing across your frame in bright conditions with the Sony Lens Hood ALC-SH161 For SEL 16-55 f/2.8 G. It’s a dedicated lens hood for photographers using the Sony SEL 16-55 f/2.8 G, and it’s most useful when a strong light source sits just outside your composition. For street photography, travel scenes or portraits outdoors, a hood can help reduce flare and preserve contrast; it can also help shield the front of the lens from incidental bumps. Fit it when you’re working in daylight, especially if you’re turning between subjects and the sun is near the edge of the frame. The named lens’s f/2.8 aperture gives you room to work with a wide aperture in lower light or to separate a portrait subject from the background. This hood is a straightforward companion for that lens, rather than a general-purpose accessory to shop for by appearance alone.

Specialist Note

The ALC-SH161’s black finish is a quiet, practical detail: it keeps the hood visually unobtrusive at the front of your lens. It’s made for the SEL 16-55 f/2.8 G, so I’d keep it fitted for outdoor street portraits or when photographing buildings with bright sky just outside the frame; turn the lens slightly away from direct sunlight when you can. The lens’s f/2.8 aperture is handy when the light drops, and the hood doesn’t take that option away. It’s a focused accessory for this named lens, not a hood to choose for a different model.
