Tiffen 44CGCY2S 4x4 CLR/Cyan 2 Grad SE Filter
Tiffen 44CGCY2S 4x4 CLR/Cyan 2 Grad SE Filter | Add cyan to part of the frame
The defining design decision is the cyan graduated effect: it lets you add colour to one part of a composition rather than tinting the whole image. Tiffen has put that effect into a 4x4 filter, giving you a square area to position as you frame your shot. The CLR/Cyan 2 Grad SE designation identifies this as a specific graduated cyan filter, rather than a general-purpose clear filter. It suits photographers who want deliberate colour shaping in-camera, especially when a scene benefits from a coloured area while the rest of the image stays more natural. Use it to introduce a cyan tone across part of a landscape or to create a more stylised look in a composed image. Its purpose is visual, so it’s best when that colour shift is an intentional part of the picture—not when you need neutral colour throughout.
Specialist Note
Once it’s positioned, the filter lets you compose with the cyan effect in place instead of adding that colour shift later. I’d suggest it to someone making carefully composed landscapes or building a stylised colour treatment in-camera. With the 4x4 format, you can arrange the graduated area against the part of the scene you want to affect; for a sky treatment, place the cyan region over the sky and keep the transition near the horizon. The “2 Grad SE” name is useful when choosing among filter effects, but I wouldn’t assume this is a neutralising filter: cyan is the point, and it will change the colour where it falls.
