TTArtisan AF40mm f/2.0 - FullFrame - Sony E Mount - Silver
TTArtisan AF40mm f/2.0 - FullFrame - Sony E Mount - Silver | A practical prime for street and travel
On a walk through town, a lens that’s ready for everyday scenes can save you from changing lenses just to photograph the next corner. The TTArtisan AF40mm f/2.0 is a standard prime for Sony E Mount cameras, with autofocus and a full-frame image circle. Its 40mm focal length gives a natural-feeling view for street scenes, travel details and people in their surroundings; the stated angle of view is 57°. The maximum f/2 aperture gives you room to work in dimmer light and to separate a subject from the background with focus. It’s a straightforward option for photographers who prefer one considered viewpoint to a zoom, and the silver finish gives this version its distinctive look. For travel and street photography, it makes most sense when you’re happy to move your feet to frame the shot.
Specialist Note
Changing lenses to keep up with a walk can interrupt the moment; this single-focal-length lens keeps the setup simple. I’d suggest it to someone who likes making pictures as they move through a city, or wants a natural view for travel rather than a very wide one. At f/2, you can let more light reach the sensor in a dim café or evening street; for a moving subject, try 1/250 sec and adjust ISO to the light. On a Sony APS-C body, the 40mm view frames like a 60mm equivalent, which is handy for picking out details from farther back. The honest trade-off is that there’s no zoom, so framing means moving yourself.
