Urth 55mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 55mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer highlight look
Hard highlights can make a portrait or night scene feel harsher than you intended. The Urth 55mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ gives you a way to soften that look in-camera, with a Black Mist effect at ½ strength. It’s for photographers who want a gentler, more atmospheric rendering without choosing the stronger look of a heavier diffusion effect. Try it for portraits with bright lights in the background, or for evening scenes where point lights are part of the composition. The result depends on the scene and the light, so it’s best treated as a creative choice rather than an always-on filter. The 55mm size is a practical detail to match to your lens’s filter thread. If you enjoy shaping the mood of an image while you shoot, this Urth filter offers a straightforward way to explore a softer look.
Specialist Note
For an evening portrait with bright bulbs in the background, I’d try the ½ strength first; it gives you a restrained starting point for a softer highlight look. The 55mm size matters when choosing where to use it: your lens needs a matching 55mm filter thread. I’d use it for portraits or a city scene with point lights in frame, keeping those lights visible so the Black Mist effect has something to work with. It suits photographers who want a deliberate, softened rendering rather than an untouched, crisp look. That’s also its limit: if you want the scene rendered without this creative effect, leave the filter off.
