Urth 58mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro

Urth 58mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro | Make room for longer exposures

Turn bright daylight into soft water and gentle movement trails with a slower shutter speed. The Urth 58mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro reduces the light reaching your camera by six stops, so you can use longer exposures without changing the daylight scene itself. It suits photographers who want to bring motion into landscapes, seascapes or flowing-water scenes, and anyone who needs more control over exposure in bright conditions. The ND64 strength cuts the light by a factor of 64: for example, a 1/60-second exposure can become about one second if you keep the aperture and ISO unchanged. That’s enough to blur moving water or soften passing movement, while stationary parts of the scene remain defined. It’s a focused tool for controlling light and motion, rather than a filter that changes the scene’s colour or adds an effect of its own.

Using an ND64 filter

Choose the shutter speed for the movement you want, then compensate for the filter’s six-stop reduction by lengthening the exposure, opening the aperture or raising the ISO. For a smooth-water effect, a tripod helps keep the fixed parts of the scene sharp during a longer exposure. The exact shutter speed depends on the available light and the motion in the frame; the filter gives you extra exposure room, but it doesn’t decide the look for you. If you want to freeze movement instead, this strength may be more than you need.
