Urth 58mm Variable ND2 32 + ¼ Black Mist Filter Pro
Urth 58mm Variable ND2 32 + ¼ Black Mist Filter Pro | Control light, soften highlights
Bright light can make it hard to keep the shutter speed you want, while sharp highlights may feel too harsh. This Urth filter combines a variable ND2–32 range with a ¼ Black Mist effect: adjust the light reaching the lens, while giving bright areas a softer, diffused look. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want both effects in one filter, rather than swapping filters as their creative needs change. For video, variable density can help you hold a chosen shutter speed as daylight shifts. For stills, it gives you room to use slower shutter speeds for moving water or other motion. The Black Mist effect can bring a gentler character to portraits and scenes with bright lights. Its 58mm size identifies the filter thread it’s made for, so it’s intended for lenses with a matching thread. This is a creative combination for shaping exposure and highlights, not simply a clear protective filter.
Specialist Note
“Can I control exposure and soften highlights with this one filter?” Yes: that’s the point of combining variable ND2–32 with ¼ Black Mist. For outdoor video, adjust the ND as the light changes so you can keep the shutter speed you’ve chosen; the range gives you room to respond without changing filters. For a portrait near bright signs or windows, the ¼ mist effect can soften those highlights while keeping the scene recognisable. The 58mm size matters in practice: it fits a lens with a 58mm filter thread. One limit to keep in mind: ND32 may not be dark enough for very long exposures in strong midday sun.
