Urth 72mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 72mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer glow for bright highlights
Urth 72mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ is a quarter-strength white mist filter for photographers who want a gentler, more atmospheric rendering. It’s suited to portrait, street and evening work where bright points of light can feel harsh, or where you’d like skin and highlights to appear less crisp without changing the scene itself. The mist effect softens contrast and gives highlights a subtle bloom; the ¼ strength keeps that look restrained rather than making it the whole story of the image. That makes it a considered option for photographers who want a little softness in-camera, while keeping plenty of definition in the subject. It can add mood to a backlit portrait or soften the look of lamps and shop windows after dark. The effect is visible, so it’s best chosen for a particular look rather than left on when you want a neutral rendering.
Specialist Note
As evening settles over a canal-side street, small lamps and reflections are exactly where a white mist filter can bring a gentler mood to the frame. The 72mm size is the key practical detail here: it’s the filter diameter to match on your lens, so check that number before choosing it. Its ¼ strength gives you a measured starting point; try it for a portrait with a bright background or a night scene with point lights, then judge the softness in the image rather than expecting a neutral result. I’d suggest it to someone who wants that softened highlight character as part of their style. It won’t suit every scene, especially when you want crisp, unaltered contrast.
