Urth 77mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Plus+
Urth 77mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Plus+ | Softer highlights, atmospheric portraits
Bright lights can feel harsh in a portrait or night scene, especially when you want the image to keep a gentle, atmospheric feel. The Urth 77mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Plus+ is a color filter designed to give highlights a softer presence and take some of the crispness out of contrast. It suits photographers who want that look in camera rather than adding it later, from portraits near a bright window to evening scenes with lights in the frame. Its magnetic fitting is useful when you want to put the effect on for a particular shot and remove it again without leaving the filter in place. The 77mm size identifies this version; match it to a lens with a 77mm filter thread. The result is a creative look, so it’s best used with intention: a subtle glow may flatter a face, while strong light sources make the effect more noticeable.
Specialist Note
The magnetic rim is the practical detail I’d point out first: it makes this filter a quick way to bring a softer look into a scene, then take it off when you want a cleaner rendering. The 77mm size matters at the lens end, so use it on a lens with a matching 77mm filter thread. I’d consider it for portraits with a bright window behind the subject, or for evening frames where a lamp or sign can give the highlights a gentle bloom. Keep the light source in the composition to make the mist effect visible. It’s a creative filter, so it won’t suit every scene; the look is the point.
