Westcott FJ-X3S Wireless Flash Trigger w/ Sony Camera Mount | Fire off-camera flash for shaped light

More controlled light in portraits and product photos starts with placing the flash away from the camera. The Westcott FJ-X3S is a wireless flash trigger and transmitter with a Sony camera mount, made to fire off-camera flashes for that kind of work. It suits photographers who want to work with flash off the camera rather than rely on the flash being next to it. For portraits, moving the flash gives you room to choose where the light falls on your subject; for product shots, it lets you position the flash around the item. The FJ-X3S sends the firing signal, while the flash provides the light. That distinction matters: this is a control accessory, not a light source. If you’re building a simple off-camera setup for people or products, it gives you a direct way to trigger the flash from a Sony camera mount.

Specialist Note

New flash users often expect the trigger itself to improve the light; its job is to let you place the flash away from the camera and fire it. The FJ-X3S is the transmitter in that setup, and its Sony camera mount makes it the version to consider for a Sony camera. For a portrait, put the flash off to one side and use the trigger to fire it; for a small product, reposition the flash to change where the light lands. One honest point: the FJ-X3S won’t light the subject on its own, so you’ll need an off-camera flash to work with it.
