Westcott Flex Cine Softbox Egg Crate Grid (1' X 2)

Westcott Flex Cine Softbox Egg Crate Grid (1' X 2) | Keeps softbox light more directed

Without a grid, a softbox can send light beyond the area you mean to illuminate. The Westcott Flex Cine Softbox Egg Crate Grid is an egg-crate-style grid for a softbox, intended to help keep that light more controlled. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want to limit spill around a subject or keep light from spreading onto nearby parts of a scene. Its stated size is 1' x 2, making it a specifically sized accessory rather than a general lighting modifier. The practical benefit is straightforward: you can shape where the softbox light goes without changing the softbox into a different kind of light source. It’s most useful when the direction of the light matters as much as its softness. One honest point: a grid helps with control, but it doesn’t replace careful positioning of the light.

Using the grid

An egg crate is useful when you want a softbox to illuminate a chosen part of a setup while reducing light falling elsewhere. That can help keep a background from becoming brighter than intended, or make it easier to separate light on a subject from light on the surrounding scene. Think of it as a way to manage spread, not as a promise of a particular look: the result depends on where you place the softbox and what you’re lighting. This makes the grid relevant for considered portrait setups, interviews, and other scenes where stray light is distracting. It’s a focused accessory for a specific job, rather than something you need on every shoot. The product name identifies it for the Westcott Flex Cine softbox range; no further fit details are included here, so I’d avoid assuming compatibility beyond that named context.
