XEEN 85mm T1.5 FF Cine Nikon | Close portraits with cinematic control

Struggling to get a close, composed shot without moving right up to your subject? The XEEN 85mm T1.5 FF Cine is a manual-focus cinema prime for filmmakers who want a short-telephoto view and direct control over focus. Its 85mm focal length works well for dialogue scenes, portrait-style interviews and details, where you can frame tightly while keeping some distance from the subject. It covers full-frame sensors, making it suitable for productions using that format, and the T1.5 maximum aperture gives you room to work when available light is limited or you want a shallower depth of field. This is a purpose-built option for video and filmmaking, rather than a lens for quick automatic focus. The Nikon version gives Nikon-system filmmakers a dedicated cine lens for carefully composed shots and deliberate focus changes.

Specialist Note

“Is the XEEN 85mm T1.5 a good lens for interview close-ups?” Yes, that’s exactly the sort of shot its longer view suits. I’d frame the subject at 85mm, then use T1.5 when you want the background to fall softer and need to work with less light. Its manual focus is a real part of the experience: you can make a considered focus pull during a line of dialogue, but it does ask for a steady hand and attention. For a short film or a planned interview, that deliberate approach makes sense; for fast, unpredictable filming, manual focus may slow you down.
