7Artisans 12mm f/2.8 MkII Nikon Z-Mount
7Artisans 12mm f/2.8 MkII Nikon Z-Mount | Go wide for landscapes, buildings and night skies
Fit more of a landscape, building or night sky into the frame with this ultra-wide prime for Nikon Z cameras. Its 12mm focal length gives you a broad view that can make foreground details feel prominent while keeping plenty of the scene in shot. That’s especially useful when you’re working close to architecture or want a wide view of the sky above a landscape. The f/2.8 maximum aperture lets in more light than a smaller aperture would, which can help when photographing at night or in dim conditions. This is a manual-focus lens, so it suits photographers who are happy to set focus themselves and take a little care with composition. If you’re drawn to expansive scenes and deliberate framing, it offers a focused, straightforward way to make them part of your pictures.
Specialist Note
12mm gives you a broad angle of view, so a nearby foreground can carry real weight in a landscape or architectural frame. On a Nikon Z DX body, the angle of view is equivalent to an 18mm lens, which is worth bearing in mind when planning your composition. For night-sky work, f/2.8 gives you the option of using a wider aperture to gather more light; manual focus means you’ll need to set focus with care rather than rely on autofocus. I’d recommend it to Nikon Z photographers who enjoy taking their time over wide scenes. For fast-moving subjects, manual focus can be a drawback.
