7Artisans 4mm f/2.8 MFT Panasonic Olympus
7Artisans 4mm f/2.8 MFT Panasonic Olympus | Go wider in tight spaces
Standing close to a building and still struggling to fit its full shape into the frame is where this lens earns its place. The 7Artisans 4mm f/2.8 is an interchangeable ultra-wide prime for Micro Four Thirds cameras, with a 139° angle of view that takes in an expansive scene from nearby. That makes it well suited to sweeping landscapes, architectural views and night skies, especially when you want foreground and surroundings to share the frame. Its fisheye perspective gives straight lines a pronounced curve near the edges, so it’s worth composing with that look in mind rather than expecting a corrected, rectilinear view. For landscape and architecture photographers, that distinctive rendering can become part of the picture; for astro work, the wide view helps include more of the sky. It’s a specialist lens for photographers who want a deliberately broad perspective, not an everyday standard view.
Specialist Note
Trying to capture a whole façade or a generous sweep of sky from a confined spot can call for a much wider view than a standard lens gives you. I’d use this 4mm for that exact problem, while treating the curved fisheye rendering as a creative choice. On a Micro Four Thirds body, its field of view corresponds to 8mm on full frame. For stars, open the aperture to f/2.8 and focus manually on a bright star; for architecture, include a foreground element to make the exaggerated perspective feel intentional. Manual focus asks you to take your time, so this suits deliberate compositions more than fast-changing scenes.
