7Artisans 62mm CPL Filter
7Artisans 62mm CPL Filter | Tame reflections and bring out colour
A circular polarizer is made for controlling reflections rather than simply protecting the front of a lens. It can reduce glare from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass, making details easier to see, and can deepen the appearance of blue skies when the shooting angle is right. That makes this filter useful for landscape, travel and everyday outdoor photography, especially when bright reflections are distracting from the subject. You turn the filter to adjust the polarizing effect and see the change through your viewfinder or on your screen. The result depends on the light and your angle to it, so a polarizer won’t give the same effect in every scene. It also reduces the light reaching the camera, something to bear in mind when choosing your exposure. This 7Artisans filter is a straightforward tool for photographers who want more control over reflections and colour in-camera.
Specialist Note
The 7Artisans 62mm CPL Filter is best at calming reflections that compete with your subject. Its CPL design lets you adjust the effect by turning the filter; for a shop window or a pond, watch the reflection as you rotate it and stop where you can see the detail you want. The 62mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 62mm filter thread, so check that marking on the lens before choosing it. I’d recommend it to landscape and travel photographers who often work around water, glass or bright skies. One limitation: the effect depends on the angle of the light, so it won’t remove every reflection in every position.
