B+W Alu Sunshade 950 Type 52mm
B+W Alu Sunshade 950 Type 52mm | Helps keep stray light off your lens
Bright light from the side can wash across the front of a lens and lower contrast, even when the sun itself is outside your frame. The B+W Alu Sunshade 950 Type is a lens hood designed to help shield the lens from that unwanted light. It suits photographers who want a straightforward way to manage side light when shooting outdoors, or near bright windows and other strong light sources. It can be particularly handy for landscapes and portraits where light is arriving at an angle rather than directly into the lens. The hood also gives the lens front a physical surround, which can help keep it out of the path of incidental contact. Its 52mm designation is the key sizing detail when matching it to a lens. This is a focused accessory: it helps with light coming from outside the picture, but it won’t change the lens’s field of view or solve flare from a light source inside the frame.
Specialist Note
“Does the B+W Alu Sunshade 950 Type 52mm help with light coming in from the side?” Yes—that’s the main reason I’d consider it. The 52mm size is the detail to match to your lens’s front fitting; get that right and the hood can help block light from outside the composition. I’d suggest it to someone who often works outdoors, especially for a landscape with low sun just beyond the frame. The aluminum construction gives the hood a firm surround at the front of the lens, rather than a soft accessory that can fold away. One limit to keep in mind: if a bright lamp or the sun is actually in the picture, the hood can’t shade it out.
