B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 49mm
B+W Black Mist 1/8 MRC Nano V-PRO 49mm | A subtle glow for crisp scenes
The 1/8 strength is the defining choice: it keeps the Black Mist effect restrained, giving bright highlights a gentle glow without making the whole frame feel heavily softened. This version suits photographers who want a touch of atmosphere in portraits, night scenes or bright interiors, while keeping the look natural enough for everyday shooting. It’s a creative effect filter, not a way to reduce exposure like a neutral-density filter. The 49mm designation is its filter size, for lenses that accept 49mm filters. Try it when direct points of light or bright skin tones look too crisp, or when you want a softer rendering in video. Since the effect is recorded in every frame, it’s worth deciding whether you want that look throughout a session. MRC Nano V-PRO is part of the product’s designation.
Specialist Note
Portrait photographers and filmmakers who often include bright windows, lamps or streetlights in the frame are the people I’d point towards this filter. The 1/8 strength gives you a light-touch mist effect; keep a bright light near the edge of a portrait and you can soften its appearance without pushing the whole image into an obviously dreamy look. Its 49mm size matters when choosing it for a lens: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 49mm filter fitting. I’d use it when you want the atmosphere in-camera, rather than adding it later. One limit to keep in mind: it won’t reduce exposure for slower shutter speeds.
