Benro Aureole ND8 3-stops ND Filter (RC1ND8)
Benro Aureole ND8 3-stops ND Filter (RC1ND8) | More control in bright light
Bright daylight can leave you with a shutter speed that’s too fast for the motion you want to show. The Benro Aureole ND8 is a neutral-density filter that reduces the light reaching your camera, giving you more room to choose your exposure. Its three-stop reduction is useful when you want a slower shutter speed in daylight, for example to soften the movement of a stream or create a smoother look in a fountain. It can also help when you want to use a wider aperture in bright conditions, rather than letting the available light dictate your settings. This filter suits photographers who want those options without waiting for dimmer light. The product name identifies it as an ND8 filter; the reduction is equivalent to letting through one eighth of the light. It’s a focused tool for managing exposure, not a way to change the scene’s lighting.
Specialist Note
Does an ND8 really give you enough room to slow things down? Yes: this filter cuts the light by three stops, so you can use a shutter speed eight times longer at the same exposure. For a stream or fountain, try a slower shutter and adjust your other exposure settings to keep the image properly exposed; the moving water will record with a softer look. The ND8 rating gives you a clear sense of the light reduction before you set up, which is handy when working in steady daylight. I’d point it toward photographers who specifically want motion blur or more aperture control. It won’t freeze movement, and it won’t replace a much stronger ND filter when you need a very long exposure.
