A lens hood is principally designed to block unwanted light rays. When light from a bright light source, like the sun or a lamp, enters the lens at a specific angle, odd spots (also referred to as lens flare) can appear on the photo. Furthermore, lens hoods are widely utilized for the protection of the lens. The protruding part of the lens hood absorbs shocks and scratches, thereby preventing any direct impact on the lens.
