Canon Lens Hood ET-73B | Helps keep stray light off the lens

Keeping stray light from washing across the front of a lens can help preserve contrast in bright conditions. The Canon Lens Hood ET-73B is a lens hood accessory for photographers who want to manage that unwanted light while shooting outdoors or near a bright window. It’s most useful when a light source is close to, but outside, the frame: the hood shades the lens and can help reduce the risk of flare. It’s a straightforward, purpose-specific accessory rather than a feature-packed part of a camera system. The name identifies it as Canon’s ET-73B hood, which is the detail to use when looking for this particular model. Keep in mind that a hood can’t prevent every flare, especially when a bright source is in the picture. For everyday shooting in changeable light, though, shading the lens can make it easier to retain a clear, punchy-looking image.

Specialist Note

Bright light creeping across the front of a lens can flatten a picture, and this hood is intended to help shade it. The Canon name tells you the maker; ET-73B is the specific model designation, handy when identifying the exact hood you mean. I’d consider it for outdoor photography or when working beside a sunlit window: keep the light source just outside the frame and use the hood on the lens to help guard against stray light. It won’t remove flare when a bright source sits in the composition, so thoughtful framing still matters. For someone seeking this particular Canon accessory by name, that clear model identity is useful.
