Caruba Blackstar 151 Quick Release Plate
Caruba Blackstar 151 Quick Release Plate | Quicker tripod changes
Without a quick-release plate, moving a camera onto a tripod usually means handling the camera-to-head attachment each time. The Caruba Blackstar 151 is a tripod accessory designed to make that change quicker: it provides the plate part of a quick-release connection, so you can attach the camera to a compatible tripod head and remove it again without repeating the same direct attachment process. That’s handy if you switch between handheld shooting and a tripod during a session, or want to take the camera off the tripod between frames while keeping your setup in place. It’s a straightforward accessory for photographers who already use a compatible head and want less fuss when changing how the camera is supported. The key point is compatibility with the head: a quick-release plate needs to match the connection it’s being used with. The product name identifies this as the Blackstar 151, but doesn’t identify a particular head system.
Specialist Note
“Does the Caruba Blackstar 151 speed up moving a camera on and off a tripod?” Yes—that’s the point of a quick-release plate. As a tripod accessory, it belongs in the connection between your camera and a compatible head; it’s not a replacement for either one. I’d consider it for a setup where you alternate between handheld shots and a fixed tripod position, such as framing a still subject: attach the camera through the matching head connection, then release it when you want to move freely. It’s a simple, specific job, and it suits photographers who want to avoid repeating the attachment step. The important limitation is that the plate must suit the head you use.
