Caruba Universal Lens Hood 72mm | Helps shade the lens from stray light

Caruba Universal Lens Hood 72mm is a lens hood in a 72mm size, for photographers looking for a hood to suit a lens with that marking. A hood helps shade the front of a lens from light coming in from outside the picture, which can be useful when shooting outdoors or working near bright windows. It’s a straightforward accessory to consider when unwanted light is affecting contrast or causing flare. The “universal” name makes it a general-purpose option rather than a hood identified for a particular lens model. Use the 72mm marking as your starting point when deciding if it’s relevant to your setup. It won’t change the focal length or aperture of your lens, and it can’t remove reflections from a bright source that’s actually in the frame. For those situations, changing your angle is still the answer.

Specialist Note

When a bright light sits just outside your framing, a lens hood can help keep some of that stray light off the lens. The 72mm size gives you a clear reference when you’re choosing a hood for a lens marked 72mm; the “universal” description signals a general-purpose design, rather than one named for a specific lens model. I’d consider it for outdoor scenes with sunlight coming from the side, or near a bright window: frame your subject with the light source just beyond the edge of the picture. One limitation is that a hood can’t block a light source that’s inside the frame, so angle and composition still matter.
