Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 100x100mm (4x4) ND 0.6 (2stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 100x100mm (4x4) ND 0.6 (2stops) | Two-stop control for bright scenes
A sunlit stream can look frozen at a fast shutter speed, even when you’d rather show some movement. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 0.6 is a neutral-density filter for reducing the light in a scene, giving you more room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture. It suits landscape photographers and anyone who wants a little more control over exposure in bright conditions, without making a dramatic change to the scene’s brightness. Its 100x100mm square format is intended for photographers whose filter setup uses that size. Two stops of reduction can make a practical difference: for example, it can let you move from 1/60 sec to 1/15 sec while keeping the aperture and ISO unchanged. That’s a useful starting point for bringing movement into water or clouds. The effect depends on the light and your chosen exposure, so it’s a measured adjustment rather than a heavy darkening filter.
Specialist Note
The Firecrest ND 0.6 gives you a straightforward two-stop reduction when bright light is pushing your shutter speed faster than you want. I’d consider it for a stream or small waterfall: if your meter suggests 1/60 sec, try 1/15 sec with the same aperture and ISO, then adjust to taste. The 0.6 strength is useful when you want a modest shift rather than a much longer exposure. Its 4x4 format is the detail to match to your square-filter setup, and the 100x100mm size makes it a specific fit rather than a round screw-in filter. It’s a focused tool; for a more pronounced exposure change, two stops may not be enough.
