Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 2.1 (7stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 2.1 (7stops) Filter | Gain seven stops in bright light
Bright daylight can leave you choosing between a shutter speed that’s too fast for the movement you want and an aperture that’s smaller than you’d prefer. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 2.1 filter reduces incoming light by seven stops, giving you more room to make that exposure choice. It suits photographers who want flowing water or softened movement in a daylight scene, and anyone trying to keep a wider aperture when the light is strong. The 62mm size is the key fitting detail: it’s for a lens with a matching 62mm filter thread. ND 2.1 is a substantial, fixed reduction rather than a subtle trim, so reach for it when you want a clear change in shutter speed or aperture. Set your exposure with the filter in place, then choose the effect you want from the scene.
Specialist Note
“Will seven stops make a visible difference?” Yes: ND 2.1 is a strong reduction. If your starting exposure is 1/125 sec, seven stops takes you to about 1 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s enough to soften moving water in daylight; use a tripod to keep the parts you want sharp steady. The 62mm diameter matters at fitting time: match it to a lens with a 62mm filter thread. I’d suggest this filter to someone planning deliberate long exposures, rather than someone who needs tiny exposure tweaks. Its seven-stop reduction is fixed, so you’ll want to choose the effect before you shoot.
