Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops) | Extend exposure by two stops
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 0.6 (2 Stops) reduces the light reaching your camera by two stops, giving you more room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture. It’s for photographers who want to manage exposure with a neutral density filter, especially when motion or a shallow depth of field matters in a bright scene. Its two-stop reduction is a measured, practical adjustment rather than a heavy darkening effect: useful for softening the movement of water or capturing some blur in passing clouds while keeping the exposure under control. The 58mm size is for a lens with a matching filter thread. If you’re working in very bright conditions and need a much longer exposure, two stops may not be enough on its own; this filter is better suited to modest exposure adjustments than dramatic long exposures.
Specialist Note
Exposure changes are easy to work out with this filter: its 0.6 density cuts the light by two stops, so at the same aperture and ISO you can change 1/30 sec to about 1/8 sec. I’d suggest that kind of adjustment for adding movement to a stream or a small amount of cloud blur without losing control of the overall exposure. The 58mm size means it’s intended for a lens with a 58mm filter thread, so match the diameter before planning a setup. It suits photographers who want a modest, predictable reduction; for very long exposures in strong daylight, you’ll need more light reduction than two stops.
