Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra Colby Brown S Edition 100mm Premier Landscape Kit
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra Colby Brown S Edition 100mm Premier Landscape Kit | Long-exposure control for landscapes
Bright skies or moving water can leave you wishing for a longer exposure, but simply slowing the shutter may let in more light than you want. This 100mm ND filter kit is made for landscape photographers who want more control over exposure in those situations. An ND filter reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you room to use a slower shutter speed and record movement in water or clouds as a softer blur. It can also help balance a bright scene when you want to keep your chosen exposure settings. The kit’s landscape focus makes it particularly relevant to photographers who plan their compositions around changing light and moving elements. The 100mm designation is an important format detail when choosing a filter setup. If you’re looking to create a particular long-exposure effect, the result will depend on the scene and exposure you choose; this product’s name doesn’t specify a filter strength or a guaranteed shutter speed.
Specialist Note
The honest caveat is that 100mm is a format choice, so this kit makes sense when that’s the filter format you’re building around. For a waterfall, an ND filter lets you lengthen the exposure so the moving water takes on a softer appearance; for drifting clouds, a longer exposure can make their movement more visible. I’d start by composing the scene, then slow the shutter to suit how much movement you want to show. The brown colour is a finish detail, not an indication of filter strength, so don’t use it to judge exposure effect. It’s aimed squarely at landscape photographers who want that control.
