Godox Hot Shoe Foot TT685 Canon | Trigger off-camera flash for portraits and product shots

More control over where light falls can make a portrait feel more shaped and a product photo look less flat. The Godox Hot Shoe Foot TT685 Canon is a flash trigger/transmitter for firing off-camera flashes, so you can work with light away from the camera rather than relying only on an on-camera flash position. It’s suited to photographers making portraits or product images who want to place a flash where it helps the subject: for example, to one side for more defined facial shape, or to the side of a small item to bring out its form. The Canon designation identifies the version named for the TT685 Canon. Its purpose is specific: trigger off-camera flash for those kinds of setups. If you’re building a simple lighting arrangement, this is the part that lets you work with the flash away from the camera.

Specialist Note

A common first-time flash mistake is keeping the light on the camera and expecting it to give a portrait much shape. This transmitter is meant to fire the flash off-camera, so you can move the light to the side of your subject and create more directional portraits. For product photos, try placing the flash beside the item rather than pointing it straight on; that gives you a way to reveal its shape with light from a different angle. The TT685 Canon name makes this the Canon-designated version. I’d consider it when you’re building portraits or product shots around off-camera flash; its job is focused on triggering, not shaping the light by itself.
