H&Y HD EVO-Series Balancer GND16 Filter Kit 77mm

H&Y HD EVO-Series Balancer GND16 Filter Kit 77mm | Balance bright skies and darker landscapes

The 77mm size defines this filter kit: it’s intended for use with lenses that have a 77mm filter thread, making it a practical option when that’s the size in your bag. The GND16 designation points to a graduated neutral-density filter, the kind of filter used to manage a brightness difference across a scene. It’s especially relevant when a bright sky sits above a darker foreground, as often happens in landscape photography. By placing the graduated area across the brighter part of the frame, you can balance the exposure more closely in-camera instead of letting the sky dominate your image. That can help retain detail in clouds while keeping the land visible. The H&Y HD EVO-Series Balancer GND16 Filter Kit is for photographers who want to work with that kind of contrast and whose lens takes a 77mm filter. The exact result depends on the scene and how the graduation meets its horizon.

Using the GND16

For a landscape with a clear horizon, align the filter’s graduated area with the brighter sky, then check the frame for an even transition. A level horizon gives you a straightforward place to position it; an uneven skyline calls for more care, since the graduation may affect objects that rise into the sky. The GND16 name identifies this specific filter, so it’s worth matching the filter to the contrast you’re trying to manage rather than expecting one setting to suit every light.
