H&Y K-Series Short Cross 4X 95mm Drop-In Filter
H&Y K-Series Short Cross 4X 95mm Drop-In Filter | Shape bright highlights
The defining choice is the drop-in format: this filter is made for the H&Y K-Series system, rather than being presented as a conventional screw-on filter. It suits photographers who already use that setup and want to add a distinct highlight effect to selected images. Think street lights after dusk, reflections on water, or small bright sources in a night scene. This is most effective when a few bright points are part of the composition; in a scene without them, there’s little for the filter to shape. It’s a focused creative accessory, not a general-purpose filter for changing the whole look of every frame. For photographers who enjoy making light itself part of the picture, its specific effect gives a scene a deliberate visual accent while keeping the choice of where to use it in your hands.
Specialist Note
Photographers who frame small points of light—shop signs at dusk, lamps against a dark street, or bright reflections—are the people I’d point toward this filter. Its Short Cross 4X effect gives highlights a short, four-point cross shape, so I’d use it when those lights are part of the composition rather than letting every bright spot compete. The 95mm size is a specific format to match within your filter setup, not a universal fit. I’d keep the framing simple and let one or two bright sources carry the effect. There’s a clear limit: without strong point highlights, the cross effect has little to show.
