H&Y K-Series White Mist 1/4 95mm Drop-In Filter
H&Y K-Series White Mist 1/4 95mm Drop-In Filter | Gentle glow for highlights
Its White Mist effect is designed to soften the look of bright highlights, giving this H&Y drop-in filter a more atmospheric feel than a clear filter. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want a gentle glow in portraits, night scenes or other images with visible light sources, without making the mist effect the whole point of the picture. The 1/4 strength gives you a restrained starting point: highlights can bloom softly while the scene still feels recognisable and defined. Use it when you want skin to look less crisp or practical lights to carry a little haze, rather than aiming for a sharply clinical rendering. The filter is part of H&Y’s K-Series and is named for a 95mm format, so it’s intended for use as a drop-in filter within that system. It’s a specific creative effect, not an all-purpose filter for every shoot.
Specialist Note
1/4 strength gives the White Mist look a measured feel, which is why I’d suggest it if you want a little glow without letting the effect dominate. For a portrait, use the filter in your K-Series drop-in setup and place a bright window or lamp in the scene; the highlights can soften while the subject remains the focus. It also suits night scenes with illuminated signs or street lights, where that gentle bloom adds atmosphere. The 95mm format is the stated size, so this is a considered part of a K-Series filter setup rather than a universal filter. If you want crisp, untouched highlights, this isn’t the effect to reach for.
