H&Y RevoRing Black Mist 1/2 Filter 58-77mm
H&Y RevoRing Black Mist 1/2 Filter 58-77mm | A softer glow for bright highlights
The defining feature of this filter is its 58–77mm size range: it’s made to serve lenses with different filter-thread diameters, rather than just one. The Black Mist 1/2 effect softens bright highlights and gently lowers contrast, giving portraits and night scenes a more diffused look. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want that visible softening in-camera, especially when point lights or bright reflections are part of the frame. Use it for a gentler rendering of skin in portraits, or to give street lights and illuminated signs a soft halo after dark. The 1/2 strength makes the effect part of the image’s character, rather than an invisible correction. If you prefer crisp highlights and strong contrast, this look may not suit every scene. It’s a creative filter for choosing a particular mood, not a neutral everyday filter.
Specialist Note
1/2 gives you a noticeable diffusion effect: bright points soften and spread, so the filter changes the mood of the frame rather than simply protecting the lens. The 58–77mm range is handy if you use lenses with different filter-thread sizes within that span; you can keep one look consistent across them. I’d suggest it for portraits with a bright window or backlight, and for evening streets where lamps can pick up a gentle halo. Keep those highlights in the composition to make the effect visible. One honest caveat: that softening can take some bite out of fine detail, so I wouldn’t choose it when crisp, punchy contrast is the priority.
