Hama Filter UV 58mm 70058 700 Serie
Hama Filter UV 58mm 70058 700 Serie | UV filtering for a 58mm lens
Outdoor scenes can lose clarity when ultraviolet light contributes to haze, and choosing a filter by eye can lead to a poor fit. The Hama Filter UV 58mm is a UV filter in Hama’s 700 Serie, made for use with a lens that takes a 58mm filter. Its stated purpose is to filter ultraviolet light, making it relevant for photographers who want that specific filter function, particularly when shooting distant landscapes on film. It’s also a straightforward option if you’re replacing a UV filter and already know your lens takes the 58mm size. The key is to match the filter diameter, rather than the camera body or lens name. Keep expectations focused: this is a UV filter, not a general solution for every cause of haze or reduced contrast.
Check the filter size
Look for the filter diameter printed on the lens or shown with its specifications; it’s often marked with the diameter symbol followed by a number and “mm”. For this filter, that number needs to be 58. A lens with a different filter diameter won’t take this size directly, so matching the measurement is the useful first step.
Specialist Note
Will the Hama 58mm UV filter fit my lens? Yes, provided the lens has a 58mm filter thread; that measurement is what matters, not the camera brand. The UV designation tells you its intended job: filtering ultraviolet light. I’d consider it for film landscapes with distant hills or coastal views, where UV haze can be a concern. Fit it to a lens marked 58mm and use it for those outdoor scenes. The 700 Serie name identifies this particular Hama line, but I wouldn’t assume features beyond the UV function from that alone. And do keep expectations sensible: UV filtering won’t clear haze caused by moisture or replace care around knocks.
