Ilford Direct Positive Paper FB 1K 62cmx20m Ei 1 Rol

Ilford Direct Positive Paper FB 1K 62cmx20m Ei 1 Rol | Make positive prints directly on paper

When you want a positive image on paper without first making a negative, Ilford Direct Positive Paper is the kind of material to consider. It’s a specialist paper for photographers working with a direct-positive process, rather than a general-purpose paper for everyday printing. This roll is 62 cm wide and 20 m long, giving you a continuous length to work from instead of a pack of pre-cut sheets. The title identifies it as FB 1K; I’ve kept those markings as supplied rather than guessing at their meaning. For a photographer who already knows the process they want to use, that makes this a straightforward option to assess by paper type, roll size and grade marking. It’s a fairly specific product, so its appeal is in that direct-positive use, not in trying to cover every kind of photographic print.

What direct-positive means in practice

The useful distinction is in the result: direct-positive paper is intended to form a positive image on the paper itself. That changes the role the paper plays in your process; it’s part of making the image, not simply a surface for printing an image from a negative. If you’re planning a project around direct-positive printing, this is the product name to look for. The long roll also gives you material to cut to the size your work calls for, rather than limiting you to a fixed sheet format. I’d choose it for that specific purpose, and check the FB 1K marking against the paper you’ve used or planned for your workflow.
