Ilford Fine Art Smooth Pearl 44" - 111.8cm X 15m

Ilford Fine Art Smooth Pearl 44" - 111.8cm X 15m | A wide roll for fine art prints

Small sheets suit plenty of photo printing, but they can limit the size and layout of a larger print. Ilford Fine Art Smooth Pearl is a photo paper roll for printmakers working with fine art or photographic images who need a wide format to plan their output around. The named 44-inch width gives you room to work on larger prints, while the 15-metre roll length provides a continuous supply for a series of jobs. Its name identifies the surface as Smooth Pearl; the exact look and feel are best judged against the paper you already use, rather than assumed from the name alone. This is a sensible format to consider when you regularly print larger work and want paper in a roll, rather than individual sheets. The honest trade-off: a 44-inch roll takes planning, and occasional small prints may not make much use of its width.

Planning around the roll

With roll paper, the finished print size is only part of the calculation. Allow for the way each image sits on the paper, any margins or trimming you need, and how much material your planned run will use. That helps you decide whether a 15-metre length suits the amount of work you expect to print, instead of judging the roll by length alone. The 44-inch format is most relevant when your prints or layouts can make use of a broad sheet; it may be less convenient if your work is consistently small. Fine Art Smooth Pearl is the product name to look for when you want this particular Ilford paper, rather than a different paper in the same family of uses. Keep your intended print dimensions and the paper’s stated width in mind as you plan a job.
