Kase Revolution Plus Reverse GND0.9 72mm
Kase Revolution Plus Reverse GND0.9 72mm | Sunset highlight control
Its reverse gradation puts the strongest light reduction around the horizon, where a bright sunset or sunrise can overwhelm a darker foreground. This Kase filter suits landscape photographers who want to balance that bright strip in-camera rather than let it dominate the exposure. The graduated neutral density design reduces light across part of the scene, with the transition extending above the horizon; that makes it especially relevant when the sky is brightest close to the skyline and less bright higher up. It can help retain detail in the sky while keeping the foreground visible in the same frame. The effect depends on the shape of your horizon: a clean, level line is easier to work with than tall, uneven features crossing the transition. Choose it for scenes where the brightest area sits low in the frame, not as a general-purpose filter for every landscape.
Specialist Note
0.9 is about three stops of light reduction at the filter’s densest area, which gives you meaningful help when a sunset is much brighter than the land below it. The reverse GND layout places that stronger reduction at the horizon, so I’d use it with the filter’s transition aligned to a low, bright skyline; it’s well suited to coastal sunsets or a level city horizon. The 72mm designation is the size to match to your filter setup. One limitation: a mountain peak or tree rising through the transition can also be darkened, so this works best when the horizon is relatively even. For broken skylines, I’d be cautious about relying on a graduated filter to balance the whole scene.
